TITLE: PET Technologist

JOB OVERVIEW: Under the direction of the Facility Manager and the
Medical Director, performs PET / CT exams at a technical level
requiring limited or no supervision. Performs a variety of
procedures that requires independent judgement for the preparation,
calibration, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals, performing
quality control, and diagnostic imaging procedures as well as
performing CT procedures.
AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Olympic Building and MAC
HOURS OF WORK: Variable
RESPONSIBLE TO: Technical Coordinator and Facility Manager
PREREQUISITES:
Completion of a formal Nuclear Medicine program with advanced
training in PET as well as ARRT with advanced training in CT.
NMTCB or ARRT(N) registry-eligible in Nuclear Medicine
Technology.

UNIQUE PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT, AND WORKING
CONDITIONS:
Requires working as a member of a team, under the direction of the
Technical Coordinator, Facility Manager and the Medical Director to
ensure efficient operation of the PET / CT scanner. Requires full
range of body motion. Requires handling, lifting, and transferring
patients and equipment, standing, sitting, walking swiftly,
reaching overhead, pulling, and bending. Requires the ability to
effectively communicate with other staff, physicians, and patients.
Requires working under changing conditions depending on the
schedules of the department. Includes the potential for exposure to
body fluids and other conditions common to hospitals. Requires
transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher, and bed throughout
the facility. Requires skills in answering the phone. Requires
knowledge in the use of information systems, and
acquiring/transferring imaging data electronically.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Unique Job Functions:
Demonstrates proficiency in all PET / CT procedures, using
initiative in special positioning needs of individual patients.
Practices good radiation safety procedure pertaining to the
preparation, handling, administration, and disposal of
radiopharmaceuticals. (ALARA)
Performs/maintains all department records pertaining to quality
control, radiation monitoring and surveys, and radioactive
materials handling.
Orders radiopharmaceuticals according to both prescribed schedules,
and on a stat basis.
Operates all imaging and auxiliary equipment according to written
procedures/protocols, demonstrating proficiency on all
equipment.
Reports/records all equipment problems promptly, and initiates
service calls as necessary.
Responsible for documenting pertinent clinical history and
symptoms.
Participates in the utilization and support of the PACS
systems.
Utilize computer systems to obtain lab values, enter exam charges,
schedule patients, enter orders, access reports, etc.
Assists in the writing and revision of procedures/protocols.
Assists in evaluating and standardizing new procedures.
Maintain a working knowledge of medications used in nuclear
medicine.
Responsible for the physiological monitoring and care of patients
during PET / CT procedures.
